Move the chips and see your own budget respond — every cost category here is a starting assumption you tune to your own household, never a claimed average.

These are starting assumptions, not statistics — tune every chip to your own reality.

Your numbers stay in your browser until you ask the advisor.

A new family member adds about

$1,070 /month in year one

Tight but workable — little slack left. The childcare and cost-level chips are the levers most worth adjusting.

Added cost, year one $1,070
Adjusted monthly budget headroom $30
Added cost by age 15 $1,110
New adjusted monthly spending $3,170

Estimates based on the assumptions above — real offers will differ.

How to Read Your Result

Four things worth understanding before you rely on this for a real decision.

These are your assumptions, not our claims There is no "average cost of a child" here. The childcare plan, schooling level, and cost-of-living dial are chips you set to match your own choices.
Costs shift with the child's age The chart shows the estimate at ages 0, 5, 10, and 15 — childcare tends to fall as schooling costs rise, so the mix changes even if the total is similar.
Childcare and schooling are the biggest levers Paid childcare and private schooling can each swing the monthly total more than any other input. Try moving those two chips first.
A tight number is not a verdict on the decision This tool prices a budget assumption. It has nothing to say about whether or when to have a child — only about what a given household budget could absorb.

What This Tool Does and Doesn't Do

This tool takes the assumptions you set — your income, current spending, and the three cost chips — and does simple arithmetic on them, entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere unless you press "Explain my numbers", and even then only the figures go, never your name or contact details.

What it can't do is tell you the "real" cost of raising a child — there is no single real number, and any tool that claims one is guessing. Every default here is a rough starting profile for a mid-range household, deliberately labelled as such. Replace it with your own numbers whenever you can.

Important: This is educational information, not financial advice — and not a statement about family decisions, which are personal, not financial ones. Confirm the figures with a qualified adviser before you rely on them.
